  • Hello, wonderful Alsaciens!

I’ve wandered onto your forum to learn more about your club and, at the same time, introduce you to Brøndby IF – the club I passionately support.

I’m a dedicated Brøndby IF fan and have created an account here so we can share football culture across borders. You are more than welcome to ask questions about the club, players, fan culture, or Danish football in general.

A brief introduction to Brøndby IF:

Founded: 1964, on the outskirts of Copenhagen.
    Colors: Yellow and blue.
    Nickname: “Drengene fra Vestegnen"

    Major achievements in Denmark:
11 Danish championships (most recently in 2020/21, ending a 16-year wait).
    7 Danish Cup titles.

Fans: Our “Sydsiden” (SouthSide) section is known as one of the most passionate and organized fan bases in Scandinavia and we are very proud about our fanscene. We travel everywhere to watch our heroes on aways and Strasbourg will not be an exception.

This is a short video from Sydsiden at our first match of the season.

    The club today:
Brøndby is in a rebuilding phase, combining experienced players with young talents from our academy. The ambitions remain high: competing at the top of the Danish Superliga, qualifying for European competitions, and nurturing one of Scandinavia’s most passionate fan cultures.

Key players: Nicolai Vallys, Daniel Wass and Noah Nartey.

I look forward to learning more about your club, your history, and your memorable moments. Perhaps we can get to know each other better, both on and off the pitch!
  • Highlights from our latest clash against Knattspyrnufélagið Víkingur:

We went into this game as massive favourites, but somehow we found ourselves 3-0 down! To make things even trickier, our young talent Clement Bischoff got a red card. With 45 minutes left, playing 10 vs 11, it looked grim… yet our team dug deep, showed incredible spirit, and managed to pull through to qualify for the playoff stage against Strasbourg. What a rollercoaster!

    Hello Brondby

Great initiative you're taking by introducing yourself here.

A quick look at the characteristics of the Brondby club reveals some nice similarities with our Racing Club Strasbourg. The fervor of the supporters, the type of stadium...

Strasbourg fans also like to come and support their team away from home; we won't miss this trip to Copenhagen.

You have a much greater national record than Strasbourg and a stronger European history as well.
Normally, we're the favorites for this match, but you have a big advantage: Brondby is much more ready at the start of the season. Strasbourg is still in the middle of preparation; it will be a 50/50 decision.

Danes who have played for Racing haven't always had much success, except for Carsten Nielsen in the 1980s. Otherwise, there have been many failures: Denis Conteh, Per Pedersen, Morten Nielsen...
With Hogsberg, whom we're about to meet, I hope it will be a success.

Have any French players played for Brondby?

    Merci!

We have naturally taken a close look at your squad, recent acquisitions, and financial investments. We are impressed by your recent signings, particularly the substantial investments made to strengthen your team. Such financial resources and opportunities are unfortunately beyond our reach.

Notably, your acquisition of Lucas Høgsberg from FC Nordsjælland has caught our attention. We were somewhat taken aback by the significant fee paid for him. Honestly, we don’t consider him a particularly strong defender, so we are curious and secretly hoping that you start him in the upcoming matches.

In contrast, Brøndby IF's transfer activity this season has been more modest. According to Transfermarkt, we have invested approximately €3.59 million in new signings, with departures totaling around €13.95 million. This reflects our strategic approach to squad development, focusing on sustainable growth and youth integration.
  • Will your squad be at full strength for Wednesday?

We'll have a lot of players missing, especially among the defenders. Therefore, Hogsberg has a good chance of playing or at least being on the bench.
We'll have four to five of our potential starters absent, but we'll certainly have a full stadium.

Apart from Clement Bischoff (one of our top talents), who was close to a move to Brighton this past winter, the squad is otherwise fully intact and ready.

We’ve had a solid start to our league campaign (the Superliga), but our play has faced some criticism. Our aim is to play aggressively, with high pressing and lots of energy. We haven’t quite found our optimal style yet, but after the most recent match, I believe the squad’s morale is strong, and the players are highly motivated for the game against Strasbourg.

Which players are missing on your side, and how do you expect your team to line up?
  • Here are the guys that won't be available:
    • Mathis Amougou
    • Soumaïla Coulibaly
    • Guéla Doué
    • Ismaël Doukouré
    • Diego Moreira
    • Saïdou Sow
    • Abakar Sylla

As far as I know, no French players have ever played for Brøndby IF. We do have a Belgian in the squad, Vanlerberghe, which is probably the closest we’ve come.

It’s funny you mention Per Pedersen, because he was one of my heroes back in the day. He even scored against the French national team with an overhead kick!

For the nostalgia. I was at the match at sat just a few meters away from the french supporters. Thanks for reminding me of that.

  • You had last year in your team a player that was previously in our team : Yuito Suzuki.

Does he plays well for your team ?

Alexander Farnerud was also in the past a player that plays in our both teams.

We bought Yuito Suzuki from Shimizu S-Pulse for around €600,000 and sold him after two seasons to Freiburg for €10 million. He was outstanding for Brøndby IF, scoring 23 goals in 69 appearances.

Alexander Farnerud was also a solid player for us, but when he arrived at Brøndby, the club was going through a lot of chaos, so he didn’t quite live up to the hype.

  • Welcome @brondby !

What does the Nickname: Drengene fra Vestegnen mean ? Does it refer to the west of Copenhagen ?
My uncle and cousins live in Frederiksberg, I have been there several times, my uncle was born in Strasbourg and lives in Copenhagen for more than 35 years.

Will you take part in the supporters’ trip next week in Strasbourg ?

That’s cool to hear. Frederiksberg is a wonderful place to live.

Yes, you're spot on! Drengene fra Vestegnen simply means “The Boys from the West” (west of Copenhagen). But don’t confuse us with Copenhageners — we don’t like that. :p

Unfortunately, no, but I will be there for our home game on SydSiden.

How many spectators do you expect to attend? And what is the general perception of facing Brøndby?

Would you consider it a failure if you don’t go through to the league stages?

    -----

  • We expect the stadium full, of course.
Danish football is not recognized as a major championship from France point of view, but we know Brondby, because of the past european results.

Of course, after our major investment for this season, not going to the league stages will be considered as a big failure.

But we also know that in football, nothing is guarantee before having playing.
  • Welcome @brondby!
    Really cool initiative

I am looking at the possibility to attend the away game. Have to wait for the tickets sale though. Heard a few good things about the atmosphere so it makes me curious!

    Merci beaucoup! / Mange tak!

I’m glad to hear you’ve heard good things about the atmosphere at our stadium.
If we get a good result in the first leg, you can expect an electric and magical atmosphere. We call ourselves “Hell in the North,” and I hope you get to experience the full intensity of it.

One of our biggest ambitions is to return to European competition — it’s where we feel we truly belong because of our history.

I hope many of you will come and visit us…

    ----

  • J'aime bien le "I hope many of you will come and visit us…"

And after people said that IA doesn't try to divide us, don't forget that rollmops is a Alsatian dish.
  • Nice try to erase the end of your final sentence, but unfortunately the translation did not follow you on this one.

I hope we will take you down, you have had your miracle to make it to the next round but your recent track record in qualifying rounds is a disaster.

At the end of the day, you try to play nice here but what you want is what we want to : dismiss your team so we can move on to the main évent.
